Welcome back to school (like in the actual school building)!
I have missed seeing your faces and hearing your voices. I am so excited to see you back in the classroom and can't wait for all the new things we will be learning this year.

The health and wellness of our CPS community is our top priority. Following orders from the state due to the COVID-19 health crisis, all district schools are now closed through Monday, March 30. I recognize the impact this closure will have on our community, and I know it will greatly burden our students, staff, and working families who rely on our schools. COVID-19 will not stop our work on behalf of children, and we are here to support you. Here are several important reminders: School Building Access and Food Assistance for Families

On January 23, 2020 10 student finalists from grades 4 through 8 competed in Murray's 6th annual GeoBee. For the 2nd year in a row 5th grader Aaron S. won! He recently took the qualifying test for the state level competition. We will hear back in March if he will be moving on.
Congratulations to all our finalists! New this year: Le Grand Concours
4th and 7th grade students will be taking the National French exam (le grand concours) this year. Testing dates will be between February 15 and March 1 for 4th grade and February 22 through March 29 for 7th grade. The National French Contest/Le Grand Concours is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Students of French in grades 1-12, in all 50 states and abroad, take a test and compete against students with similar educational backgrounds for prizes. Grades 1-6 participate in the FLES Contest. Grades 7-12 in the Secondary Contest. Visit https://www.frenchteachers.org/concours for more information. Bonne chance to all Murray students participating! Bonjour,
Merci to all that ordered or purchased taffy apples and pretzels for our fall fundraiser as well as pan dulce for Dia de los Muertos . I will soon be sending information out about our next fundraiser which is a Dining Day at Chipotle in the beginning of December. Also, in early January students in 4th-8th grades will be taking the school qualifying test for the National Geographic GeoBee. If they would like to study and prepare there are numerous resources one of which is https://www.nationalgeographic.org/education/student-experiences/geobee/study/. There is also an app: National Geographic GeoBee, that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Googleplay. If you have a student in 5th through 8th grades, I want to remind you that students should be spending about 20 minutes a week on Duolingo for schools (https://schools.duolingo.com/). They can sign in with their CPS google accounts. This will be a grade for 2nd quarter and will help students improve their French skills. Merci et à bientôt! The World Language Department is hosting its annual Taffy Apple fundraiser. Starting today you can turn in your order forms. All apples are $2 each and we offer plain caramel, original peanut, and Halloween sprinkles. Order forms are due to a WL teacher by October 16, and apples will be delivered Thursday, October 24. There will also be a limited quantity of apples for sale at Data Night (Oct 16) and Literacy Night (Oct 24).
Several Murray students and families spent their Saturday attending the Chinese Cultural Festival at Whitney Young High School. They enjoyed performances, hands-on activities and even earned prizes. Thank you to Ms. Ni for organizing the event.
