Travel Info Meeting:
Wednesday night Maestra Duffy and I hosted a meeting for 5th-7th grade families to give information about our planned trip to the Concordia Language Villages in Bemidji, MN this May 2018 and to France/Spain for Spring 2019. If you were unable to make it to the meeting, but would like information, you may contact either one of us. Grant Winner! Madame Korpalski was notified this week that her grant proposal was selected for funding by the Chicago Foundation for Education. The grant will offset costs for an enrichment field trip to the Alliance Francaise for the 6th and 7th grade French students. Geography Bee: Students in 4th through 8th grades will be taking the preliminary round tests to qualify for the school Geography Bee once we return from winter break. If you would like to sharpen your geography skills, here are some tips on how you can become a fierce competitor: •Visit the National Geographic Bee Study Corner at: http://nationalgeographic.org/bee/study •Pay attention in social studies and world language classes. •Notice the details: Where does the fruit you eat come from? What cities do different sports teams play in? •Keep up with world news and current events. •Study maps and atlases. •Download and play a geography game app such as “Geography Quiz Game” and “World Citizen.” •Play “Place the State” at: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/states_experiment_drag-drop_Intermed_State15s_500.html •See Madame Korpalski if you would like examples of questions from previous Geography Bees.
